2e3a8c776f global_settings.colors_file will always be !false which means even when the setting isnt set it will try to read /.rockbox/.icons which is bad mmkay

2c82494e66 updated the quickscreen's: 
- use viewports
- dont change to system font, fiddle with item positions to make them fit small screens
- user customizable options (use the .cfg settings "quickscreen_left, quickscreen_right, quickscreen_top, quickscreen_bottom" for the name and the .cfg name for the setting you want to use. it can be any except the string settings... (e.g. quickscreen_left:talk menu)
- a top item! if there is none set the up button will exit the screen

4d238c14d7 bandaid fix for FS#8168 - statusbar would be enabled if poweroff happened while in fm screen. a proper fix is to not force the statusbar on in the fm screen, but untill that happens this is fine.

d490f44112 New way of handling integer settings with variable steps: table settings (FS #8186, with fixes by me). This allows to get rid of those synchronised tables in firmware/ and apps/, making things more flexible and less error prone. First application: backlight timeouts. * Make some more things 'const'.

d7e1f77146 Commit FS#7440. The iPod Video doesn't actually have a hardware equalizer. It does have hardware bass/treble settings with configurable cutoff. So make the bass/treble settings use the hardware and remove the hardware equalizer configuration.

6077e5b7c8 Unify PCM interface just above the hardware driver level for all targets including the sims. Perform lockout of audio callback when changing states. Weird new playback or recording trouble? Check before and after this revision first though things seem quite sound.

f3b015f73b FS#7808 by Tom Ross, Ken Fazzone and me, with help from Antoine Cellerier. 
Add two new line selector types: solid colour and gradient. Solid colour only uses the primary colour setting.
The secondary colour setting is used for the gradient. Text colour for the selected item is also changeable.
These new settings are a bit controversial so they may be removed later.

294ec1d110 Remove the ID3 tag version priority setting on the grounds of it being pretty pointless. ID3v2 tags are superior to ID3v1 tags, and needs less seeking around to find.

b311367481 *** Lang v2 cleanup (FS#6574) *** 
1) Introduces apps/features.txt that controls which strings are included 
for each target based on defines.
2) .lng and .voice files are now target specific and the format versions 
of both these file types have been bumped, which means that new voice 
files are needed. 
3) Use the 'features' mechanism to exclude strings for targets that 
didn't use them.
4) Delete unused and deprecated and duplicated strings, sort strings in 
english.lang

Some string IDs were changed so translations will be slightly worse than 
before.

74cbb0a1b2 Give color targets the ability to display each LCD line a different color and use this newfangled ability to provide themable colored file types. See the comments on read_color_theme_file and the sample.colors file provided for how to use this. .colors files go in themes directory for now. This separate line color function should be trivial to add to menus and wpss.

9adf056b7b this adds 2 options to the recording settings menu to let you save all the recording settings to a .cfg and view your saved presets. 
saves them in /.rockbox/recpresets.
also moves the default location for "write theme config" to /.rockbox/themes

6f95ab7de7 Add in buttonlight brightness setting for the Gigabeat, and setup the framework for future players that have adjustable button light brightness settings. Also fixed a bug in the backlight code when the brightness was set to 0.

7fdfa56454 Add backdrop support for LCD remotes with depth > 1-bit. Only WPS backdrops, but the groundwork is laid for main backdrops too (all that's really needed are menus to set/clear them).

2a2b8d8a82 Make bitmaps use the right format in a RWPS and prevent a backdrop tag in a RWPS from clearing the main display's backdrop. This also allows future backdrop support for LCD remotes by making the parsing code aware of whether the display for a WPS is a remote or not.

ce05addf52 Revert recording/repeat timer for now. It is useful as a feature, but didn't receive enough testing on multiple targets, and fixing it is non-trivial. Later reversal would be complicated because of .lng spreading. * The patch should probably redone in a different way, as it's huge for what it does... * Issues: (1) The repeat timer setting has NULL pointer hits. (2) The multi-int setting screen breaks with proportional fonts, and with somewhat larger fonts. (3) On some targets, all values except the leftmost one are unreachable. * Hint: The timer itself would be much simpler if it'd just store & compare ticks (497 days before it wraps).

99b2742cd0 Use the new DSP callback functionality in firmware/sound.c to deal with SWCODEC stereo width and channel configuration instead of the old more spread out #ifdef based approach. Rename the DSP functions involved for more consistent naming.

a7fabf0741 Add software based bass/treble controls for targets which have no such functionality in hardware (currently only X5). They can also be used on any other SWCODEC target by adding #define HAVE_SW_TONE_CONTROLS in the relevant config-*.h file. Also remove some now unneeded zero checks when using get_replaygain_int(). Comments on sound quality are welcome as some parameters can still be fine-tuned.

d4e904bf35 SWCODEC: Dsp speed optimizations. Changes for more modularity. Removal of some usless stuff. Some assembly routines for Coldfire with speed in mind over size for the outputs but the channel modes remain compact. Miscellaneous coldfire asm updates to accomodate the changes. Codec API structure version has to increase so do a full update.

fb62831faa * Move playback menu to the new sysetm 
(http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8703.0 if I broke any of 
those settings accidently).
* Add set_int_ex() which is the same as set_int() but adds a param which 
is a callback that returns the voice ID to talk for the selected value
* Change the "pause on headphone unplug" to use meaningful strings in 
the config instead of numbers, this setting will be reset.
* saves ~500bytes on the rec build :D

092d355c34 Kill the errors for now. Would like to know why resetting in_recording_screen from outside the function should ever be needed. If you're not in the recording screen any more, the function should have exited and reset in_recording_screen to false. If it hasn't actually been reset in that case, the function hasn't return for some reason.

f0d2861fc5 when saving config.cfg, only save settings which are not the same as 
default, hopefully will give a small boost to saving and loading times.
Doing a manual save from "manage settings" > "write config" will save 
every 
setting.
Adds an option to save a cfg file from only the settings needed in a 
theme .cfg (I may have missed some so let me know).

b77f1217fb Correct the spelling of persistent so its correct (Yes, I failed english at school). 
Loading a persistent setting again (from any config file, including config.cfg unless it has a ~) will remove it from the list of 
persistent settings.

46f7f7de4d prepending ~ to a setting name in config.cfg will use its value from the load instead of the current value when saving back. (e.g 
~volume: -25 will always boot with -25 volume, even if you shutdown with volume at 0)

228d62dd18 Split the system status variables out of global_settings and put them into a new struct global_status. Use status_save() if these need 
saving.
Added car_adapter_mode to the nvram settings, so nvram settings will be reset.

df0dc2262e FS#6096. Recording on PortalPlayer targets (H10, iPod Video, iPod 4g, iPod Color, iPod Nano). 
* Fix failed compile of enc_config.c when HAVE_MPEG2_SAMPR is not defined.
* Fix bug in AIFF encoder header creation on little endian targets.
* Add recording screen keymaps for H10 and iPod.
* Move pcm_playback PP specific code to target tree.
* Add recording code to wmcodec drivers.
* Add pcm_record code.

Some problems still remain:
* Playback doesn't work after recording until Rockbox is restarted.
* Gain control not implemented.
* Only 16-bit/44KHz for now. The hardware should be capable of up to 24-bit/96KHz.
* Line-in recording not tested on H10.

Stop playback.c requesting a rebuffer while not playing
Shutting down from inside the menu will now save settings to disk, and
entering the main menu will not force a setting save unless a setting
actually changes

0f5cb94aa4 Big Patch adds primarily: Samplerate and format selection to recording for SWCODEC. Supprort for samplerates changing in playback (just goes with the recording part inseparably). Samplerates to all encoders. Encoders can be configured individually on a menu specific to the encoder in the recording menu. File creation is delayed until flush time to reduce spinups when splitting. Misc: statusbar icons for numbers are individual digits to display any number. Audio buffer was rearranged to maximize memory available to recording and properly reinitialized when trashed. ColdFire PCM stuff moved to target tree to avoid a complicated mess when adding samplerate switching. Some needed API changes and to neaten up growing gap between hardware and software codecs.

354770088e Re-enable the currently unused and broken dithering and noise shaping code already in Rockbox, and make it a user option instead of a codec-controlled option. fa9dee01bc Reverted the recording timer commit, as it has at least 2 major problems. (1) It uses the user timer, which interferes e.g. with backlight fading on H1x0 (and potentially other targets). Using the user timer here is a waste, as the required timing lies in the range of seconds to days. A tick task would be sufficient. (2) It draws to the LCD from within an ISR. This must not be done unless there's a mechanism to ensure it doesn't interfere with the main thread's drawing, otherwise garbage might be displayed and LCD updates might stop working.

7ef47ed876 Recording countdown timer: set timer in recording settings screen (max 1 week countdown), start/pause timer in recording screen by pressing the pause button. If you have a separate record button then this will override the timer and start to record. Icon at bottom right of screen indicates timer is ticking. If you are in the recording screen when the countdown is over, recording will start automatically, if not then the icon will flash to indicate you should return to the recording screen to begin recording.

0dd1f8ec11 Work-in-progress rework of charging status reading & display: * Changed several charging related HAVE_* macros into one multi-value CONFIG_CHARGING. * Always use proper macros for charging states. * Battery symbol charging animation now starts from current level on all targets with charging. a4bfe37c6c Optical S/PDIF recording and monitoring for Iriver H1x0. Removed unsupported recording options on Iriver. Sample rate displayed in recording screen reflects the real S/PDIF sample rate when doing S/PDIF recording. Testing would be appreciated. Thanks to Jens Arnold for fixing the DMA hang issue. Will reset settings!

3c7278f405 Reworked backlight fading by GPIO based PWM to work for other targets 
than H1x0. iPod Nano and 5G backlight fading is enabled. To try for your
device, just define HAVE_BACKLIGHT_PWM_FADING in the relevant
config-xxxx.h file. NOTE: Will break your settings, so save a config
file first.

603f87fe3c Foreground/Background colour settings. Based on patch #3050 by Jonathan Gordon, extended my me. The principle of the patch is that the three sliders contain the native ranges (currently 0..31, 0..63, 0..31), and the equivalent RGB888 colour is displayed underneath. The config block (and global_settings struct) contain the native value for the fg/bg colours (either RGB565 or RGB565SWAPPED), but the text .cfg files contain the RGB888 value written as 6 hex digits.

1.1 corrects gain display bug;
1.2 allows combined setting of stereo gain without an extra

that they are saved separately;

d9e5b67b71 Patch #1421422 - Backdrop image patch started by Linus, finished by me. Adds ability to set backdrop images for file browser and menus (store full-screen bitmaps in /.rockbox/backdrops/) and also the ability to set a full-screen background image in a WPS using the %X|filename.bmp| WPS tag. Currently only implemented for targets with colour LCDs.

2993ae69b5 Simplified and uniform volume handling: * Volume setting in dB on all targets, within the 'natural' range defined by the respective DAC (limited to -100..+12 dB for archos Recorders and Ondios in order to avoid 4 chars being displayed in the status bar). 0 dB means line level on all targets. * No more artificial volume limiting for Iriver and Player, settings always represent true values. Removed the various sound scaling options. * Bumped config version so save your settings. Also make sure to adjust the volume after loading a .cfg, then save the .cfg again, otherwise the volume will be out of range (a flaw in the .cfg loader).

5009c9c1b8 Split the HAVE_RTC define into HAVE_RTC, HAVE_RTC_RAM and CONFIG_RTC - in preparation for targets (H300, iPod) which have a clock (HAVE_RTC) but no general purpose RAM available for settings data (HAVE_RTC_RAM). CONFIG_RTC is used to specify the low-level driver required.

8051a0b724 Sound settings rework: * Put all fixed parameters (unit, decimals, step, min, max, default, set function) for the individual settings into one structure array. * Use the new individual sound setting functions where appropriate. * Added dummy sound setting functions and defined the codec type for the sims. ab78b04680 Implemented directory caching. No more waiting for disk to spin up while 
browsing when cache is enabled (system -> disk -> enable directory
cache). Cache building on boot is transparent except the first boot.

58e9412bff Added universal functions for creation of numbered filenames and date+time filenames (units with RTC only). Some size optimisations within code using these new functions. Everything should behave as before, except config saving will always find the highest file number + 1 even if the sequence is non-contiguous.

99a0598c28 Major peakmeter rework: * Changed set/get functions for dbfs mode to bool type. * Removed performance setting, leaving (slightly adapted) high performance mode only. * Refresh rate is always 20 Hz now. * Readout doesn't do an extra (hidden) peek, should allow for slightly better clip detection. * Brought back high performance peakmeter for recording. Peakmeter stops hogging the CPU when the disk is spinning; this is enough to avoid the performance problem when saving data. * Optimisations, code cleanup and code policeing. * (iriver) Reduced CPU load of peakmeter by not calculating excessive overlaps. ** Bumped config block version, so save your settings before upgrading.

9e8918b086 Resume rework. With the new resume function, 'Ask' and 'Ask Once' are redundant options, since you can resume after any startup using the resume key. These have been stripped out, and the resume code has been streamlined. A small bug in button handler initialisation has been fixed.
