18a8e529b5 more wps->skin engine work.. 
start redoing memory management in the skins to use a single larger buffer instead of lots of arrays for things like images and progressbars.
This commit removes the limit on the amount of progressbars allowed on the screen, still 1 per viewport, but unlimited otherwise(!)
Also a larger buffer for remote targets, same size for non-remote targets but very easy to make it bigger (technically removed the 52(?) image limit in skins, except still limited to 1 char identifiers)
Unlimited "string" tokens now (limit was 1024 which was rediculously wasteful)

4764ee04c9 Add backdrop functions to the multiscreen api and add a enum backdrop_type parameter for different backdrops (main, wps), symplifying calls and removing dozens of #ifdefs (stubs added for non-backdrop displays that can't do backdrops).

3b75c86d74 A bit mroe wps/skin engine cleanup so that the structs the wps uses can be static: 
-add wrappers wps_data_load() and wps_data_init() so that other code doesn't need the structs for that
-change (and rename) gui_sync_wps_uses_albumart() to take points to be filled as parameter to get the AA size of a wps

3e7444ff87 part two of the grand overall wps/skinning engine cleanup work: 
* rename wps_engine to skin_engine as that was agreed on
* rename music_screen back to wps
* clean up the skin display/update functions a bit
* make skin_data_load setup the hardcoded default if a skin cant be loaded for whatever reason instead of doing it when it is first displayed

ignore any gui_wps or wps_ or gwps_ nameing in skin_engine/ ... these will be renamed as this work gets finished

5e5fc64cb2 Start of some apps/ and wps cleanup work... Move everything related to the actual drawing of the wps into apps/gui/wps_engine, things related to the actual screen are in apps/gui/music_screen.c (names are temporary unless noone comes up with anything better) 
No real code changes.

be214c9445 Fix a problem that the statusbar was redrawn to late and not really in sync with the lists when changing loading a (theme) .cfg or changing the colors witht the color picker. Now both, the statusbar and the tree lists are redrawn instantly after settings_apply() (even before the "Theme loaded" splash).

e385ee18ce Decouple the statusbar drawing from the rest of the screen drawing. it is not drawn roughly 4x per second automatically. 
viewport_Set_defaults() will setup the given viewport with the correct "full screen" dimensions (so start at 0,0 if statusbars are disabled or 0,8 if they are enabled.)
All screens should keep the statusbar enabled, but if you really want to ignore the user setting you can disbaled it with viewportmanager_set_statusbar(false).

This commit also includes some menu/list viewport cleanups from kugel in FS#9603

93572e2a9e Keyclick fixup take two. It is only 88 samples (2msec) long so keep a small static buffer around for beeps less than or equal to keyclick duration. This way it operates no matter the buffer state and still won't interfere with alternate PCM operations like recording or plugin playback.

58eb784a5d Straighten out some powermanagement stuff. Give target complete control over how power inputs are sensed. Clean SIMULATOR stuff out of target files. Get rid of USB charging option on targets that don't support it or don't implement it yet. Menu string remains to avoid language incompatibility but should be removed on next cleanup for targets not using it (notice in english.lang). global_settings becomes incompatible for some builds and so plugin API version is incremented.

5395957549 Add a setting type which is completly user-defined. This setting type cannot be used by the regular menu macros (e.g MENUITEM_SETTING() macro) so if you are goign to use this type remember to implement the setting screen seperately (using option_select() if you can)

2f8a0081c6 Apply FS#9500. This adds a storage_*() abstraction to replace ata_*(). To do that, it also introduces sd_*, nand_*, and mmc_*. 
This should be a good first step to allow multi-driver targets, like the Elio (ATA/SD), or the D2 (NAND/SD).

f6982346a1 Add timestretching from FS#8894, as written by Stephane Doyon based on work by Nicolas Pitre. Shouldn't affect playback unless it's explicitly enabled, but let me know if it does. Currently has a dedicated setting, but maybe inclusion of the code will inspire someone to integrate this with the pitch screen...

01729e7a18 FS#9281 Rename of splash functions. 
* Remove gui_splash()
* Rename gui_syncsplash() to splashf() and remove its voice 
capabilities.
* Rename the internal splash() to splash_internal() and introduce an 
externally visible splash() that handles simple splashing  without 
printf functionality e.g. splash(HZ, ID2P(LANG_FOO)); or splash(HZ, 
"foo"); if a LANG_* id is passed it will be voiced.
* Adjust all places that called gui_syncsplash() to use the correct 
variant from above.
* Export both new functions to plugins and adjust places calling 
rb->splash() to use the correct variant so that we now have naming 
consistency between the core and plugins.
* Fix one latent bug that would cause my sim to crash with the above 
changes and correct P2STR and P2ID macros, thanks to pondlife.

5a169bb717 commit FS#9027 - conditional viewports 
** BREAKS CURRENT WPS's  **
* %P has been removed, merged with the new %pb
* %pb is now %pb or %pb|bitmap|x|y|width|height| (any of those params can be - to use sane defaults... check wiki/task for more explaination)

* New %Vl and %Vd tags which are used to setup and display conditionaly displayed viewports (%Vl|<id>|<usual %V params>| to set up, then %Vd<id> to enable the viewport
* bumps the max allowed viewport count to 24
* you can setup 3 different progressbars in a WPS... max of one per viewport though

I'll commit changes to the cabbie wps soon which shows how to use %Vl/%Vd properly...

c541e04632 Gigabeat F/X: 
Allow chaning of touchpad sensitivity in the System settings menu. Some
units are dodgey at "Normal" senitivity and some at "High". "High" can make
some units difficult to navigate and may even require a settings reset so try
it and don't use "High" again if it doesn't work out :-). Defaults to "Normal"
 which behaves like older builds.

009cebeab2 Straigten-out lcd sleeping on Gigabeat F/X. Add a service function to backlight.c to handle lcd sleep timer. Make HAVE_LCD_SLEEP useable without a setting and use HAVE_LCD_SLEEP_SETTING when a setting is available in addition to HCD_HAVE_SLEEP. If a setting isn't used, the target must define the timeout to be used in the config.

d02c79c03f Commit viewports-in-WPS patch (FS#8385). This adds the %V tag - see the CustomWPS page for details (shortly...). There is still some work to do - decide how to handle font references, decide how to handle conditionals. Plus checkwps is broken - I'll fix that in a separate commit.

e92d2c51ed Add a general-purpose parse_list function to parse a string containing a delimited list of items and adapt the parse_image_load() function in the WPS parser to use it. This function will also be used to parse the upcoming WPS %V viewport tag, but I'm committing it separately as these changes are unrelated to the viewport implementation itself.

19c6e66c13 Implement the playback event handling as a system-wide multi-purpose event system. Unified mpeg.c and playback.c audio event handling. Converted ata_idle_notify to use the new event handling system also.

2c82494e66 updated the quickscreen's: 
- use viewports
- dont change to system font, fiddle with item positions to make them fit small screens
- user customizable options (use the .cfg settings "quickscreen_left, quickscreen_right, quickscreen_top, quickscreen_bottom" for the name and the .cfg name for the setting you want to use. it can be any except the string settings... (e.g. quickscreen_left:talk menu)
- a top item! if there is none set the up button will exit the screen

4d238c14d7 bandaid fix for FS#8168 - statusbar would be enabled if poweroff happened while in fm screen. a proper fix is to not force the statusbar on in the fm screen, but untill that happens this is fine.

d7e1f77146 Commit FS#7440. The iPod Video doesn't actually have a hardware equalizer. It does have hardware bass/treble settings with configurable cutoff. So make the bass/treble settings use the hardware and remove the hardware equalizer configuration.

6077e5b7c8 Unify PCM interface just above the hardware driver level for all targets including the sims. Perform lockout of audio callback when changing states. Weird new playback or recording trouble? Check before and after this revision first though things seem quite sound.

f3b015f73b FS#7808 by Tom Ross, Ken Fazzone and me, with help from Antoine Cellerier. 
Add two new line selector types: solid colour and gradient. Solid colour only uses the primary colour setting.
The secondary colour setting is used for the gradient. Text colour for the selected item is also changeable.
These new settings are a bit controversial so they may be removed later.

1) Introduces apps/features.txt that controls which strings are included 
for each target based on defines.
2) .lng and .voice files are now target specific and the format versions 
of both these file types have been bumped, which means that new voice 
files are needed. 
3) Use the 'features' mechanism to exclude strings for targets that 
didn't use them.
4) Delete unused and deprecated and duplicated strings, sort strings in 
english.lang

Some string IDs were changed so translations will be slightly worse than 
before.

74cbb0a1b2 Give color targets the ability to display each LCD line a different color and use this newfangled ability to provide themable colored file types. See the comments on read_color_theme_file and the sample.colors file provided for how to use this. .colors files go in themes directory for now. This separate line color function should be trivial to add to menus and wpss.

2a2b8d8a82 Make bitmaps use the right format in a RWPS and prevent a backdrop tag in a RWPS from clearing the main display's backdrop. This also allows future backdrop support for LCD remotes by making the parsing code aware of whether the display for a WPS is a remote or not.

ce05addf52 Revert recording/repeat timer for now. It is useful as a feature, but didn't receive enough testing on multiple targets, and fixing it is non-trivial. Later reversal would be complicated because of .lng spreading. * The patch should probably redone in a different way, as it's huge for what it does... * Issues: (1) The repeat timer setting has NULL pointer hits. (2) The multi-int setting screen breaks with proportional fonts, and with somewhat larger fonts. (3) On some targets, all values except the leftmost one are unreachable. * Hint: The timer itself would be much simpler if it'd just store & compare ticks (497 days before it wraps).

a7fabf0741 Add software based bass/treble controls for targets which have no such functionality in hardware (currently only X5). They can also be used on any other SWCODEC target by adding #define HAVE_SW_TONE_CONTROLS in the relevant config-*.h file. Also remove some now unneeded zero checks when using get_replaygain_int(). Comments on sound quality are welcome as some parameters can still be fine-tuned.

d4e904bf35 SWCODEC: Dsp speed optimizations. Changes for more modularity. Removal of some usless stuff. Some assembly routines for Coldfire with speed in mind over size for the outputs but the channel modes remain compact. Miscellaneous coldfire asm updates to accomodate the changes. * Add set_int_ex() which is the same as set_int() but adds a param which 
is a callback that returns the voice ID to talk for the selected value
* Change the "pause on headphone unplug" to use meaningful strings in 
the config instead of numbers, this setting will be reset.
* saves ~500bytes on the rec build :D

092d355c34 Kill the errors for now. Would like to know why resetting in_recording_screen from outside the function should ever be needed. If you're not in the recording screen any more, the function should have exited and reset in_recording_screen to false. If it hasn't actually been reset in that case, the function hasn't return for some reason.

f0d2861fc5 when saving config.cfg, only save settings which are not the same as 
default, hopefully will give a small boost to saving and loading times.
Doing a manual save from "manage settings" > "write config" will save 
every 
setting.
Adds an option to save a cfg file from only the settings needed in a 
theme .cfg (I may have missed some so let me know).

b77f1217fb Correct the spelling of persistent so its correct (Yes, I failed english at school). 
Loading a persistent setting again (from any config file, including config.cfg unless it has a ~) will remove it from the list of 
persistent settings.

46f7f7de4d prepending ~ to a setting name in config.cfg will use its value from the load instead of the current value when saving back. (e.g 
~volume: -25 will always boot with -25 volume, even if you shutdown with volume at 0)

228d62dd18 Split the system status variables out of global_settings and put them into a new struct global_status. Use status_save() if these need 
saving.
Added car_adapter_mode to the nvram settings, so nvram settings will be reset.
