8a1fd8c686 Commit FS#6929 - Gigabeat bootloader improvements by Barry Wardell and myself. This build fixes the problems seen with the latest builds on the Gigabeat X. Added View IO Ports under the Debug menu for the Gigabeat. Make sure you grab the latest bootloader from the Wiki as the old bootloader will not work properly with new builds.

2fd7c3c828 Make the simulator work with unicode filenames on windows. This includes both file operations and console (debug) output. Note that the console window _must_ be configured to use a truetype font for proper unicode display.

754d9195f7 explicitly set *loaded_ok = false; when given "" for a filename. 
remove icon_init from the startup sequence, its not dependant on filetypes_init anymore,settings_apply calls the icons_init (causes the bmp's to only be read once on boot instead of twice)

7b1e827f0c Dircache fixes: Stop scanning properly if shutdown is initiated. Require user to re-enable dircache if initialization fails. Don't create statefile unless eeprom settings have been initialized.

21165a3f3d Recode filetypes.c to remove its need for a static string buffer. 
Functional changes:
- filetypes.c handles the open with menu now instead of onplay.c
- automatic plugin registration no longer works (did anyone know about you could do this?)

82f9056988 Dual core support for PP502x players (iPod G4 and later, iriver h10, Sansa - iPod G3 will be coming soon.) This allows threads to be run on either core provided that all communications between the cores is done using uncached memory. There should be no significant change in battery life from doing this. Documentation (on the RockboxKernel wiki page) will follow shortly.

9f4bd8712f Cuesheet support by Jonathan Gordon and me (FS #6460). 
Everytime an audio file is loaded, a cue file with the same name is searched for. A setting 
allows to disable this (default is off). Cuesheet files can also be viewed in the file browser.

228d62dd18 Split the system status variables out of global_settings and put them into a new struct global_status. Use status_save() if these need 
saving.
Added car_adapter_mode to the nvram settings, so nvram settings will be reset.

df0dc2262e FS#6096. Recording on PortalPlayer targets (H10, iPod Video, iPod 4g, iPod Color, iPod Nano). 
* Fix failed compile of enc_config.c when HAVE_MPEG2_SAMPR is not defined.
* Fix bug in AIFF encoder header creation on little endian targets.
* Add recording screen keymaps for H10 and iPod.
* Move pcm_playback PP specific code to target tree.
* Add recording code to wmcodec drivers.
* Add pcm_record code.

Some problems still remain:
* Playback doesn't work after recording until Rockbox is restarted.
* Gain control not implemented.
* Only 16-bit/44KHz for now. The hardware should be capable of up to 24-bit/96KHz.
* Line-in recording not tested on H10.

3e24665c41 Fix settings not saving to disk correctly, (fixes FS#6408) 
Stop playback.c requesting a rebuffer while not playing
Shutting down from inside the menu will now save settings to disk, and
entering the main menu will not force a setting save unless a setting
actually changes

0f5cb94aa4 Big Patch adds primarily: Samplerate and format selection to recording for SWCODEC. Supprort for samplerates changing in playback (just goes with the recording part inseparably). Samplerates to all encoders. Encoders can be configured individually on a menu specific to the encoder in the recording menu. File creation is delayed until flush time to reduce spinups when splitting. Misc: statusbar icons for numbers are individual digits to display any number. Audio buffer was rearranged to maximize memory available to recording and properly reinitialized when trashed. ColdFire PCM stuff moved to target tree to avoid a complicated mess when adding samplerate switching. Some needed API changes and to neaten up growing gap between hardware and software codecs.

0b22795e26 adds ata_idle_notify system which allows callbacks in apps/ to be called 
when the hard disk is idle but spinning, and just before shutting down.
on SWCODEC targets with > 8MB RAM the playback engine will try to
refill the buffer if it is less than 75% full while the disk is spinning
(temporarily disabled on the nano)

954b732654 Initial support and use for EEPROM memory on H120 & H140 players when 
Rockbox firmware has been flashed over original firmware (not yet
possible to do). Dircache & tagcache serialization for fast bootup
without the need to scan disk when Rockbox is in flash.

0dd1f8ec11 Work-in-progress rework of charging status reading & display: * Changed several charging related HAVE_* macros into one multi-value CONFIG_CHARGING. * Always use proper macros for charging states. * Battery symbol charging animation now starts from current level on all targets with charging. Two-colour animation kept for non-b&w targets. Round down fill level while charging as before, but round to nearest pixel value for discharging on all targets. * Charging anim fixed on player. * Some code cleanup.

b09df8019a (1) Tagcache commit message now uses splash on bitmap displays: * Uses user font (better readability because of font size, message can be localised in languages with non-latin script). * Solves mysterious screen clear observed on Ondio (caused by an uninitialised variable when there was nothing to commit). * Smaller code. 6488177d05 Init voice before audio because audio needs to know the voice buffer size. Seems to fix the occasional freeze at startup (if voice is used), and also seems to fix voice eating itself after playback.

5009c9c1b8 Split the HAVE_RTC define into HAVE_RTC, HAVE_RTC_RAM and CONFIG_RTC - in preparation for targets (H300, iPod) which have a clock (HAVE_RTC) but no general purpose RAM available for settings data (HAVE_RTC_RAM). CONFIG_RTC is used to specify the low-level driver required.

b51f7dfc9b Backlight handling: * Added 'Caption Backlight' and 'Backlight On When Charging' for the iriver remote LCD. * Enabled the backlight code for the simulator, and prepared backlight simulation. It's only a stub atm, writing messages to the console window. * Added tick task handling to the simulators for this to work. * Code cleanup in backlight.c, less dead code.

ab78b04680 Implemented directory caching. No more waiting for disk to spin up while 
browsing when cache is enabled (system -> disk -> enable directory
cache). Cache building on boot is transparent except the first boot.

7c7dd43ccf Fixed a long-standing bug in the charging screen. The charging screen froze when OFF was pressed. The intention was to powerdown, but this cannot work on archos, so the charging screen must not react on OFF. Made the charging screen react on the ON press instead of the release for better feedback. Bootbox uses SYS_POWEROFF for powering down.

97a8049389 New feature for units that can be powered or charged from USB (Recorder fm/v2, Ondios): USB power mode, based on patch #1110332 by Pieter Bos. This way you can save battery power or even charge the battery (fm/v2) while using your unit near a PC. Hold MODE (Ondio) or F1 (fm/v2) while plugging USB to enter that mode. A tiny USB plug icon will be displayed is the status bar (overridden by the regular power plug icon in case of fm/v2 when the charger is connected).

27abc2a641 (1) Early USB detection on boot, before trying to mount the partitions. Cleaner & quicker; removes the need for the extra USB check at the top of ask_resume() which caused a deadlock in screenshot mode (see patch #1110332). On Ondio, this allows to leave an MMC in the slot when booting with USB connected for instant access. (2) Ondio: Track MMC status, only ask to remove the card if required. Probe MMC status if unknown.

0f04029293 New way of handling the builtin language strings. Now the string pointers are no longer stored as initialised data, but calculated by walking one long string containing all language strings separated by \0. While this doesn't need more RAM, it fixes the problem that loading incomplete .lng files after complete ones did not reset the missing strings to the default, and it also decreases the binary size by >1700 bytes.

f993365447 Moved the low-level playback functionality into a new, separate module "mp3_playback". This e.g. allows to export a memory playback API to the plugins, opens the door to games with sound, UI sounds, etc.
